This AVR-based embedded system of high-resolution ultrasonic radar will help the driver to avoid potential accidents by telling the driver the minimal distance of obstacles behind the car which may be neglected by drivers. The system uses TV On-screen character display (OSD) technology as main display and LED as secondary display. In the light-emitting bars display modes, this safety car system will display the distance of obstacles through 3×8-segment LED. The more bars are lightening, the closer obstacles are.
When the system is initialized, it will first clear the screen on of car TV via on-screen character display chip, if the on-screen character display mode is selected. Then the measurement module and output module will be executed repeatedly.
The project is built around microcontroller AVR AT90S2313. With multifunctional port in different protocols for its data output, the system can be easily used not only in automobiles, but also in various domains such as automated guided vehicles (AGVs) technology, other logistics carriers and so on. This sophisticated ultrasonic radar is designed by Xu Chi, Sun Jie, and Jia Xiujiang from China.
